The Toronto Blue Jays have some of the brightest talents in baseball. Vlad Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio, I get it. But Vlad Jr. doesn’t play all nine positions every single inning; there are other players that exist, too. This article will examen another player who will have a great comeback season in 2019: Marcus Stroman.

Marcus Stroman came into the league as a 23 year old in 2014. He had a very promising rookie campaign in which he had a 3.65 ERA in 130.2 innings. He also had a 2.84 FIP and a 1.17 WHIP as well. In 2015, Stroman only pitched 27 innings, after having to undergo ACL surgery. However, in those 27 innings Stroman was stellar. He had a 1.67 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP that year and hoped for a healthy 2016 season.

In 2016 Marcus Stroman wasn’t great, but he was able to stay healthy throughout the whole year. In 204 innings, Stroman had a 4.37 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP. He also had a 3.71 FIP, so based solely on his WHIP and FIP, Stroman was primed for a bounce back 2017 campaign. In 201 innings, he had a 3.09 ERA with a 1.3 WHIP. Stroman was looking like a solid #2 starter that showed up in big moments and pitched with a lot of intensity and charisma. However, his 2018 season was definitely one to forget. In 102.1 innings, Stroman had a 5.54 ERA with a 1.48 WHIP. In addition, he had a 3.91 FIP, which shows that his fielders didn’t help him out at all in 2018.

Marcus Stroman is destined for a bounce back 2019 campaign. He had a full offseason to get rid of the injuries that nagged him all of last year. His FIP has never been above 4.00, which immediately shows that with average fielders, he is already an above average pitcher. Over his 5-year career, he has an average ERA+ of 108 and an average WHIP of 1.28. Even in multiple injury plagued and under achieving seasons, Stroman has never had a negative WAR and even has an average WAR of 2.12, which is very impressive for a pitcher that is about to be in his prime and the best shape of his career. Although he hasn’t found consistency yet in his career, Marcus Stroman has shown signs of brilliance and has the perfect arsenal in order to make the next step in his career. Marcus Stroman has everything that he needs to become the ace of the Blue Jays in 2019, and now it’s time for him to put it all together. Watch out baseball fans, The Stro-Show has just begun.
